The first meeting of the Susquehanna County Solid Waste Advisory Committee will be held at the Recycling Center located at 133 Ellsworth Drive, Montrose on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at 1pm. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss revisions to the County's Solid Waste Plan. On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, we had a major problem develop with our equipment. We found ourselves unable to sort the large commingled loads we accept from our local haulers. We realized quickly that because of the specialized equipment and the upcoming holiday, the problem would take days and possibly weeks to resolve. We contacted our local recycling haulers and asked them to discontinue bringing their commingled material to us until we could find a way to fix our equipment. Our staff worked hard to ensure that we would not have to close our public drop-off area. Because that material is already separated, we were able to continue operating on that limited basis. Our haulers did continue to bring us paper and cardboard. We understand that this down time was an inconvenience for them. We appreciate their continued support. And we are happy to be back to operating normally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
