A special thank you to our Haulers... On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, we had a major problem develop with our equipment. We found ourselves unable to sort the large commingled loads we accept from our local haulers. We realized quickly that because of the specialized equipment and the upcoming holiday, the problem would take days and possibly weeks to resolve. We contacted our local recycling haulers and asked them to discontinue bringing their commingled material to us until we could find a way to fix our equipment. Our staff worked hard to ensure that we would not have to close our public drop-off area. Because that material is already separated, we were able to continue operating on that limited basis. Our haulers did continue to bring us paper and cardboard. We understand that this down time was an inconvenience for them. We appreciate their continued support. And we are happy to be back to operating normally.

Our Recycling Center
Our Mission: Welcome to the Susquehanna County Recycling Center's web
site. We are here to
serve and assist you with your recycling and waste management needs. Our
mission at the recycling center is to maintain the delicate balance of our
county's economic and environmental concerns through a sound waste management
program. An effective and self-sustainable recycling program is an important component of the Susquehanna County Municipal Waste Management Plan of
1991. Our goal is to
minimize the municipal waste stream by extracting recyclable
materials from it and preserving valuable space in the
landfills. We then set out to maximize the social, economic, and environmental benefits
from these reclaimed recyclables through processing and marketing them. Since Susquehanna
County is rural, with a population of only 42,000 people, it is not feasible to
collect, process and sell all the products that are deemed recyclable at this
recycling center. Therefore, we have
chosen the ones that we can recycle in a way that will maximize the amount of
recyclable materials accepted at the center,
maximize revenue and minimize expenses for the County Recycling Center. We are accepting as
many recyclable
categories as currently feasible, given the geographical location and
physical parameters of our recycling center. However, we will continue to pursue
new and progressive programs that will promote sustainable social, economic and
environmental growth. We sincerely thank you for your cooperation and vested interest in the recycling effort.
We encourage scheduled tours for Schools, Civic groups, and Youth groups and we also offer educational presentations, either here or in your classroom. Please contact us to schedule your event. For your convenience: Our Drop-Off Area is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Our office hours are from 8:00am to 4:30 pm; Monday through Friday.
